A Dependable Dependance

Consider the birds of the air. In Matthew 6:26, Jesus tells us "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" Sounds simple enough right? So then why do we still suffer from unbelief that leads to stress and anxiety?

While a bird is developing in an egg, growth is occurring without any outside source of nutrients or provision. Everything that bird needs, is inside that egg. It has all of the nutrients and shelter needed to develop. Yet interesting enough, as a full grown bird, it depends on the provisions of God in order to survive without human stress or anxiety.

Quite the opposite with us. When we are developing in the womb, we are completely dependent of our mother. We receive our shelter, nutrients, and safety from her. Yet at the age of responsibility, we strive to be independent. We believe we can provide for ourselves, and create our own doors of opportunity. When things don't go our way, we begin to stress and have anxiety. This is because "independence" was never intended to be a part of our human design. From the creation of humanity, God has always desired that we be completely dependent on Him, so that He may show himself to be our provision. So many times we strive to create our own success. Remember, God himself is the provision.

Take some time today to reflect on God's goodness, and all that he has provided for you. The greatest thing that he could ever provide to us, is himself.
